Mandarins originate from southern China and are probably the world's oldest known citrus fruit. The plants have been cultivated in China for several thousand years, with the first reliable mention dating back to the 12th century BC.

A nice, but not confirmed story about the naming of mandarins tells that these fruits were considered so precious in imperial China that they were reserved only for the imperial officials, the "mandarins".

From its region of origin, the mandarin spread across Southeast Asia and India. Around the 1st millennium AD, the mandarin was already cultivated in many southern prefectures of Japan. The first mandarins introduced to Europe came to England in 1805 with Sir Abraham Hume from Canton/China.

Mandarins are known for their high vitamin C content. Just a few of these tasty, highly sugary fruits cover the entire daily requirement of an adult.

Spread over three floors, this holiday flat - the former stables - can accommodate up to 5-6 people.
